Reassurances the risk of mpox spreading widely is low -- after a confirmed case with a likely link to Queenstown's Winter Pride Festival

Reassurances the risk of mpox spreading widely is low -- after a confirmed case with a likely link to Queenstown's Winter Pride Festival

The infected person was under investigation -- but has now been confirmed to have the virus.

Officials say it's entirely possible more cases will be confirmed -- and they're keeping a close eye on the situation.

Health New Zealand National Clinical Director, Susan Jack, says it's NOT thought to be the more severe variant circulating overseas.

She says they think it's likely to be the less severe variant -- but they will be waiting for confirmation on that.

Anyone who attended the event and has concerns should contact Healthline, their GP or sexual health service.
