South Canterbury's historic run in rugby's second-tier Heartland Championship has finally ended

South Canterbury's historic run in rugby's second-tier Heartland Championship has finally ended

Mid Canterbury have stunned the reigning Meads Cup champions with a one-point win in the semifinals in Timaru.

They've felled their mighty neighbours 17-16... South Canterbury hadn't lost since 2019... claiming three straight titles.

In the other Meads Cup knockout, Thames Valley easily accounted for Whanganui, the Swamp Foxes beating the Butcher Boys 38-15 away.

A couple of thrillers in the Lochore Cup semis... King Country saw off Ngati Porou East Coast 34-29 in Taupo... West Coast won away, beating Horowhenua-Kapiti 52-51 in Levin.
