    Immediate results and a cash payback - from a weekend trial of new number plate scanners targeting people with outstanding court fines and reparations


    Five bailiffs scanned more than 4800 number plates in Auckland, on Friday and Saturday.

    The Ministry of Justice says the hand-held scanners used at at two Police checkpoints - turned up 208 positive matches for outstanding fines.

    It says immediate roadside enforcement action was taken against 32 people, and 32-thousand-dollars collected.

    The technology's being trialled around the country until the end of the year.
