Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are said to have found a new balance in their relationship since finalising their divorce earlier this year

The singer, 56, filed for divorce from actor Ben, 53, in August 2024 on what would have been their second wedding anniversary and the pair, who were originally engaged from 2002 to 2004 before reuniting in 2021, finalised their split in January 2025

A source has now told Page Six that the pair have a better dynamic now that they are no longer married, saying: "They like each other so much more when they're not married to each other,"

The insider added: "They each have roles to play with each other - she's the glamorous, gorgeous diva superstar on a pedestal, he's the roguish cad who keeps her at a distance to maintain sexual tension.

"As long as they are each playing their parts, they're perfect. The minute they try to be anything more than that - especially something as pedestrian as husband and wife - it's so doomed."

The former couple appeared together in New York this week to promote their new film Kiss of the Spider Woman, marking their first joint public appearance since ending their marriage in January.

Produced by Ben through his company Artists Equity, the film features Jennifer in the lead role as Ingrid Luna, also known as Aurora or The Spider Woman.

Speaking to Extra at the premiere, Ben praised his ex-wife's performance, calling her "amazing" and saying she "really does it all".

He added: "She's amazing in the movie. I just can't wait for you, the audience, to see the movie. I'm as proud of this movie as any that I've ever been involved with. I'm really excited to be here tonight."

Ben also said Jennifer was "born to play" the title role and praised her dedication to the project.

He added: "Early on in Jennifer's involvement in this... she just was going to give it her all and she did. She worked enormously hard.

"You get to see all of her many gifts. She's somebody that grew up watching classic musicals."

Jennifer, who co-parents twins Emme and Max, 16, from her previous marriage to Marc Anthony, acknowledged the importance of Ben's support in bringing the film to life.

During an interview with Today co-host Craig Melvin, she laughed off a question about their split but said: "If it wasn't for Ben, the movie wouldn't have gotten made... and I will always give him that credit."
