Two search operations in the South Island have been suspended until daybreak

Two search operations in the South Island have been suspended until daybreak

On the West Coast, at 23 year-old man failed to surface while swimming in the Hokitika River.

Searchers looking for him expect to be back at the area near Whitecombe Valley Road in Kokatahi at daylight.

The search for a teenager missing off Dunedin's St Clair Beach will also resume in the morning about 7.

He's been missing since 4.30 on Thursday afternoon.

Police have been working with Surf Life Saving, and both Land and Marine Search and Rescue to try to find him, but sea conditions have not been favourable.
