Sean Astin has stepped in to help Tylor Chase

Ned's Declassified star Tylor, 34, has been living on the streets and dealing with addiction for some time and Stranger Things star Sean - who is also the president of the Screen Actors Guild - reached out to offer his support.

Tylor's former co-star Daniel Curtis Lee - who recently tried to get temporary accommodation for Tylor in a hotel - revealed Tylor is a huge Lord of the Rings fan so Sean, 54, got in touch to try to convince him to take up the offers of help.

Daniel told TMZ he spoke to Tylor after he met with Sean and Tylor "reflected on his experience meeting Sean", which was very "positive".

Meanwhile, police have said that Tylor has refused numerous offers of help so there is little they can do.

Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez told PEOPLE in a statement: "What we're seeing play out with Tylor is, unfortunately, something we see every day, not just in Riverside, but across California. From the videos circulating online, it's clear he is struggling with substance abuse and untreated mental illness. The challenge is that our current mental health system is largely built around personal choice. Even when someone is clearly in crisis, they must voluntarily accept services unless very specific legal thresholds are met.

"Long before the recent public attention, and continuing since then, outreach teams have been in frequent contact with Tylor and have repeatedly offered services. He has come very close to accepting help, but ultimately that final step must be made by the individual, and at this point he has declined those services."

Tylor's father Joseph Mendez Jr. told the Daily Mail: "He's a wonderful person when he's Tylor.

"For over a decade, the family has sought treatment options for Tylor, including support for substance use as well as mental health care."

Mendez Jr added that Tylor has been struggling with addiction since he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in 2015.
