Govt. accused of 'reverse' domain name hijacking

The New Zealand Government has been accused of using 'bad faith' in attempting to gain control of the domain name newzealand.com

The Complainant, named as Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Jim Sutton, has lost a attempt to gain control of the domain name newzealand.com from Virtual Countries, Inc.

Unlike a recent WIPO ruling which ordered the domain name holder to hand over the domain newzealand.biz to the New Zealand government, the new ruling turns a full 180 degrees and is scathing on the New Zealand Government actions.

The WIPO Panel found that the Complainant has failed to prove that 'NEW ZEALAND' is a trade/service mark in which the Complainant has rights and they uphold the allegation of reverse domain name hijacking.
