The America's Cup construction in downtown Auckland has been given the green light

The America's Cup construction in downtown Auckland has been given the green light

The Environment Court's granted resource consent for the construction of the bases and other infrastructure.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says it's the last hurdle before the start of a transformation of the waterfront, especially Wynyard Point.

He says removing the chemical tanks will make way for a huge development of the area.

It'll be an entertainment and residential precinct, with shops and a park right out on the water.
