Claims Auckland Mayor Phill Goff is doing a U-turn - with a plan for building into the harbour

Auckland Council's developing arm, Panuku, has proposed an extension to Queens Wharf - to allow large cruise ships to berth.

The 10-million-dollar, 90-metre concrete extension will run outwards into the Waitemata Harbour.

Stop Stealing Our Harbour spokesperson, Michael Goldwater, says on the campaign trail, Phil Goff gave them hope this wouldn't happen.

He says the mayor in his run-up to the 2016 election said 'not one more metre in the harbour' will be for commercial use.

A protest will be held at the end of Queens Wharf on Sunday.
