Parents, teachers and speech language therapists want changes to how children are taught to read

Parents, teachers and speech language therapists want changes to how children are taught to read

At least 50 so far have written to the Education Minister and Jacinda Ardern.

They want a systematic phonics literacy approach, after a Massey University report said that's the best learning method for children.

Learning Matters director Carla McNeil was a teacher and principal - and has a child with learning difficulties.

She says New Zealand needs to catch up with international literacy standards.
