Tauranga City Council has gone back on its decision to give a piece of land to a local Maori trust
24 September 2019
The council previously gifted the land at 11 Mission St to the Otamataha Trust, a nod to the fact the iwi land was wrongly on-sold by the descendants of missionaries.
But calls to revoke the decision began almost immediately after the meeting, after claims of holes in the information presented to the council.
The council today voted to either gift or lease the land to an entity representing both the Otamataha Trust and the historic Elms Foundation which currently occupies the site.
