The memorial for the 2011 Christchurch earthquake has finished under an overcast sky

The memorial for the 2011 Christchurch earthquake has finished under an overcast sky

The service across the Avon River from the memorial wall was opened by the Christchurch mayor.

Mayor Lianne Dalziel says the city has been through a lot in the past nine years.

She says today is a day to remember those who lost their lives nine years ago today.

The 6.3 quake struck at 9 minutes to one in the afternoon of February 22 2011, killing 185 people.
