The Greens candidate standing in the Prime Minister's Mt Albert electorate, thinks prisoners should have the right to vote

The Greens candidate standing in the Prime Minister's Mt Albert electorate, thinks prisoners should have the right to vote

Luke Wijohn says prisons should be engaging people back into society, rather than pushing down a path of poverty and crime.

The 18-year-old says we want to empower prisoners to be active members of society.

He says to do that, they need to be engaged in the system and see how their voice has effect.

The Government plans to re-introduce the right to vote for prisoners serving three years or less.
