From today, Inland Revenue and the Accident Compensation Corporation will no longer accept them.
Inland Revenue spokesperson Sharon Thompson says cheque use has been declining for about four years.
She says Inland Revenue is increasingly digital, and most customers already choose to pay their taxes online.
New Zealand Post and Kiwibank have also stopped accepting cheques, with many customers preferring to pay by other methods.
