The Kaiapoi Fire Brigade is celebrating its 150th birthday

Over the last week firefighters have attended schools to encourage fire safety, shown off some of the original fire engines and held a station open night.

Fire chief Tim Reynolds says a street parade at 10 this morning will kick the day's celebrations off.

He hopes there'll be 40 fire appliances - both old and new - that will move through the town and wind up in red zone reserve land.
