This year's iconic Auckland Royal Easter Show has been cancelled -- for only the second time in almost two centuries

This year's iconic Auckland Royal Easter Show has been cancelled -- for only the second time in almost two centuries

Organisers have expressed great sadness at having to cancel this year's event, but say the health and safety of everyone has to be the top priority.

It's only the second time in 177 years that the annual event hasn't been able to proceed.

Scores of other traditional Easter events have also had to be cancelled, including church services, Easter egg hunts, markets and runs.

Waiheke Jazz Festival won't go ahead this year.

However, ticket-holders are being asked to go without a refund if they can, to secure the future of the festival.
