Police have mounted about 190 checkpoints around New Zealand to ensure Easter compliance with alert level 4 restrictions

Police have mounted about 190 checkpoints around New Zealand to ensure Easter compliance with alert level 4 restrictions

Police say it's been pleasing to see most motorists stopped were complying with the rules, but they are still seeing people who are not complying.

Last night, a man in Wairarapa told a family member he was going fishing on the coast.

He did not return and was not in communication with his family.

Local Police had to respond, including planning for a potential Search and Rescue operation.

"The 'missing' man was found, and had decided to stay overnight in his car.

Police say it's a prime example of someone putting emergency responders at risk and taking Police resource away from where it should be.
