Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says half of them were infected in the workplace, with most of the transmissions happening between staff.
He says it shows the importance of really good hygiene, personal protective equipment, and physical distancing - but the latter is much harder when working in hospitals.
Bloomfield says it also emphasises that even the best-trained people using appropriate PPE is not failsafe.
He says that's why there's a very low threshold for testing staff if they're symptomatic, and health authorities are going in hard - standing people down and testing all those who may be close contacts.
43 workers have recovered from the virus.
