The Maori Party has announced its fifth candidate for this year's election

The Maori Party has announced its fifth candidate for this year's election

Donna Pokere-Phillips will stand in the Hauraki-Waikato electorate.

The mum-of-five says as a mother and nana, she's never been afraid of standing up to those who would want to block Maori progress.

The party still needs to announce two more candidates.

The Maori Party's co-leaders are John Tamihere and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer .
