MetService is forecasting persistent rain and wind for the region on Wednesday, continuing to the end of the week.
Meteorologist April Clark says people should opt for the raincoat rather than umbrellas - because of the wind.
She says along with the rain, they are expecting the north easterly winds to increase possibly even to gale force.
As of yesterday, the dams are 57.4 percent full.
