South African Rugby has responded to New Zealand Rugby's plans to create a Super Rugby competition without them

South African Rugby has responded to New Zealand Rugby's plans to create a Super Rugby competition without them

NZR has confirmed it will pursue an eight-to-ten team competition in 2021, with Pasifika and Australian applications welcome to join the five kiwi teams.

In a statement, SA Rugby says they have been kept abreast of the thinking in New Zealand and of the outcomes of the Aratipu Report to address the immediate challenges of travel restrictions that may stretch into next year.

As part of the SANZAAR joint venture they will be examining how the mooted new competition will fit into the existing contracted competitions.
