Hamilton's mayor has issued a "please explain" notice to those running isolation facilities in the city after another break-out

Hamilton's mayor has issued a "please explain" notice to those running isolation facilities in the city after another break-out

A woman and four youths were caught after last night's escape from the Distinction Hotel - one of them was on the run for the whole night.

Four of them will appear in court today.

Paula Southgate says she will meet with authorities on Monday to understand more about the incident.

She says it bothers her that it seems a little easy to jump the fence.

The group of absconders had applied for compassionate exemption multiple times but were declined.

NZME understands they wanted to attend a funeral for a family member in Auckland today.
