Rafael Nadal insists his and other top players absence will take nothing away from the significance of winning the upcoming US Tennis Open

The defending champion has joined women's world number one Ash Barty in deciding not to travel to New York over Covid-19 fears.

Nadal will instead stay home in Majorca and prepare for the defence of his French Open title next month.
