Canterbury's Medical Officer of Health is commending swift action by two Christchurch rest homes - when residents showed respiratory illness

The Village Palms Retirement Village in Shirley and Brookhaven Retirement Village were both put into lockdown yesterday.
Dr Cheryl Brunton says many residents were swabbed for Covid 19 - and to-date, all test results have returned negative
She says the facilities proactively took steps to protect residents and staff.
With the latest community transmission in Auckland, Christchurch is moving into Level two.
That means all rest homes will be restricting visiting - including booking visits, implementing shorter stays and stricter hygiene protocols.
