Failures in the medical centre and a GP failed to care for a woman with urinary symptoms
5 October 2020
The Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner has released a report today -- which found the woman was given antibiotics to treat urinary tract symptoms and blood in her urine -- despite a urine test showing no infection.
After more than three years since her initial consultation --a cystoscopy revealed the woman had tumours in her bladder.
The report found the medical centre failed to provide an appropriate standard of care.
It also found the GP involved breached the Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights Code -- by not reviewing her clinical history adequately and not following up her persistent symptoms appropriately.
