More than 30 firefighters have now put out a scrub fire in rural Northland

The five hectare fire took hold on Landowners Lane in Tutukaka, north-east of Whangarei.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Daniel Nicholson says 8 fire appliances were sent to the scene when the alarm was raised just before 7.30pm.

One crew will be on standby overnight in case hotspots flare up.
