The red and blacks have lost 23-16 to Otago in Christchurch, the first time in 15 years their southern neighbours have beaten them.
Canterbury's fifth on the premiership ladder with just three wins from eight games, and in danger of dropping to last if North Harbour and Bay of Plenty both win this weekend.
They also face heavyweights Tasman and Auckland in their final two games
Co-coach Mark Brown says the they're now fighting to survive.
