Police are warning people selling a car on Facebook marketplace to be wary of fraudsters

They've received 50 complaints over the past year, from car owners who say buyers have attempted to purchase their car using fraudulent cheques.

The funds show as "pending" in the owner's bank account, but the cheques are reversed a few days later due to insufficient funds......often long after the keys for the vehicle have changed hands.

Police are advising sellers not to hand over possession of their car until the funds have cleared.
