The rise of a popular fitness craze has helped grow the sport of weightlifting in New Zealand

The rise of a popular fitness craze has helped grow the sport of weightlifting in New Zealand

126 athletes competed at the recent weightlifting national championships - with 57 per cent of them female.

NZ high performance weightlifting director Simon Kent says it shows a continued rise in the number of competitors in recent years.

He says the increase is easily explained.
