    Hopes Counties Manukau Police only need to carry guns for a short time


    Officers are carrying firearms, after three shooting call-outs in Otara over the weekend.

    There are no reports of injuries.

    Canterbury University criminal justice director Jarrod Gilbert says after these events it's wise for Police to be armed temporarily.

    He says nobody wants illegal firearms in communities, but right now, they are a reality.
