Praise for the Plimmerton community as it rallies to clean-up from damaging flash flooding

Praise for the Plimmerton community as it rallies to clean-up from damaging flash flooding

Downpours yesterday morning left part of State Highway One underwater and forced 15 families from their homes.

A welfare centre has been set-up at Plimmerton primary, and evacuees are being asked to stay with friends and family until they can regain access.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker says the community spirit has been remarkable.

She says there are people everywhere helping on the ground.

More rain is forecast today, potentially heavy tonight.
