The Crown's acknowledged its treatment of a Bay of Plenty iwi was wrong

It's signed a Treaty of Waitangi settlement with Ngati Rangitihi valued at more than 11-million-dollars.
Grievances addressed in the settlement include excessive land taking, and treatment of the iwi after the Mount Tarawera eruption and the loss of the pink and white terraces.
Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Andrew Little says no amount can ever fully compensate for the loss and distress the iwi has suffered.
He says significant amounts of land went into private ownership, and the Crown can't get that back.
But Little says the Crown can start the process of giving Ngati Rangitihi an economic base to provide for its own people.
