Police have launched a homicide inquiry after the death of a man near Tauranga

Police have launched a homicide inquiry after the death of a man near Tauranga

Police were called to a McLaren Falls Road property, at Omanawa, around 10pm Monday, to reports of an injured person -- but the man was dead when Police arrived.

It's the fourth death in the rural area since 2018, and Western Bay of Plenty mayor Garry Webber is concerned.

He says it's a sad and not the sort of incident the community wants.

One person is assisting with enquiries.

Police are urging anyone with information, or people in the area in the time, to make contact on 105 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
