The weed killer's been used by home gardeners, farmers and local councils since the 1970s.
The Environmental Protection Authority now wants to know who is using the product, and how often.
It comes after traces of the chemical were found in honey.
Apiculture New Zealand Chief Executive Karin Hoss says a review into the product is needed.
She says it's clear from her discussions with beekeepers and primary sector organisations that there isn't a lot known about product, as there's no data collected on it.
