Three people have been injured in a shooting incident in New York City's Times Square

New York City Police Department Commissioner Dermot Shea says gunshots were heard about 4.55pm Saturday local time at the intersection of 44th Street and 7th Avenue.

The three victims are a four-year-old girl and two women aged 23 and 43.

They were bystanders caught in an argument between two to four men, at least one of them carrying a gun.

The police posted a photo and video of a person of interest on social media.
