Pete Sagan has prevailed on the shortest stage of this year's Giro d'Italia

The Slovakian cyclist sprinted across the line first in the 139-kilometre stage into Foligno .

Sagan says his team kept the pace up and tested some of the other sprinters during the climbs.

Egan Bernal remains in the tour leader's pink jersey for a second day, with a 14-second overall lead.

Kiwi George Bennett is 29th with Patrick Bevin 58th.
