Getting the best people in front of our kids

Getting the best people in front of our kids

ACT is proposing a new 250 million dollar fund which would be allocated to schools to promote teaching excellence.

The fund works out to be about five thousand dollars per teacher, per school.

Principals can give that money to the teachers they believe are contributing most to the education of their students.

ACT Leader David Seymour says at the moment the best teacher and worst teacher in New Zealand get paid the same.

He says the only way they can get paid more is by spending time getting into a more senior role and on the hours they've done -- and that's not the way the rest of the economy works.
