National MP Simon Bridges has taken to social media after witnessing what he says was a gang fight at Tauranga Hospital

Bridges says patched gang members took over the entrance and someone was being badly beaten up in the carpark.

He says gang violence is at "epidemic proportions."

A police spokesperson says officers were called to a report of disorder in the car park, but spoke to the parties and were advised there were no problems.

Police say CCTV footage of the incident confirmed it didn't involve gang members.
