Officials are assessing the remains of a massive fire in Wellington for asbestos risk

Officials are assessing the remains of a massive fire in Wellington for asbestos risk

One person was injured in the Hanson Street blaze, which consumed two buildings and severely damaged another two last night.

Wellington city council spokesperson, Richard MacLean, says they are checking whether asbestos from the roof cladding has spread.

He says initial findings indicate a low risk because of the rain, and water used to extinguish the fire.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.
