Fixing a broken pipe and sinkhole in Wellington, looks to have cost five million dollars

Fixing a broken pipe and sinkhole in Wellington, looks to have cost five million dollars

The 100-year-old stormwater pipe collapsed in February, causing a sinkhole to open under Jervois Quay.

A temporary fix was installed, before the pipe was fully replaced over Queen's Birthday weekend.

The six-lane road had to be completely shut so crews could work 24-7 to get the job done.

A Wellington City Council report covering the first three months of the year estimates the work cost a total of 4.9 million dollars, with final invoices still coming in.
