'We're under fire! We need help!'

Constable Ilya Kokine remembers the plea over the radio from colleagues Matthew Hunt and David Goldfinch the day Hunt was shot dead, in Auckland's Massey.

25-year-old Eli Epiha is charged with attempting to murder Goldfinch - who was shot in the leg - that day in June last year.

He's already admitted murdering Hunt and wounding a passer by.

Kokine's told a jury at the High Court at Auckland about the moment he saw a motionless Hunt lying on the road.

He says he was hoping things weren't as bad as they looked.
