Police support for guns on hips is at its highest level in a decade

Police support for guns on hips is at its highest level in a decade

A survey of around six-thousand Police Association members has revealed 73 per cent want to be armed.

Chief Executive Chris Cahill says it's down to the risk police see every day.

He says the risk is continuing to grow - and officers don't feel safe.

Last week, Police Commissioner Andrew Coster ruled out a move toward general arming of police officers.

Just this morning - South Auckland police responded to an alleged armed car jacking and located two guns.
