More than a thousand people have been assaulted in the city centre this year so far.
Statistics show a 63 per cent increase in violent crime for the first five months of this year, compared with the same period in 2019.
Police Association president Chris Cahill says there's also been a 60 per cent lift in family harm incidents in Auckland.
He says the average family harm incident takes 55 minutes to attend and resolve, which is 55 minutes two police officers aren't on the streets preventing those assaults.
