The world number one and Serbian is striving to become the second player in the Open era to complete a calendar year Grand Slam.
He's beaten 18-year-old Dane Holger Rune 6-1,6-7, 6-2 6-1 and is six wins away from achieving the rarest of feats.
Czech Petra Kvitova and world number one Australian Ash Barty are among those in the women's draw to advance.
Earlier Alexander Zverev, Matteo Berrettini and Denis Shapovalov all advanced.
