    Hockey New Zealand claim Darren Smith is the right person to lead their high performance programme, despite the men's side failing to advance beyond pool play at the Tokyo Olympics under his stewardship


    Smith replaces Tony Hanks who held the role on an interim basis.

    Chief executive Anthony Crummy says it's hard to read too much into the Games result, given they played so little in the build-up due to the pandemic.
