Sharon Stone has joined the cast of 'The Flight Attendant'

The 63-year-old actress will have a recurring role in the second season of the hit HBO Max series as the estranged mother of Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco).

Sharon has been cast as Lisa Bowden - who wishes to remain distant to her daughter after spending a lifetime dealing with Cassie's alcoholism.

The character briefly appears during a flashback scene in the first season but will take on a more prominent role in the latest series, which is set to air later this year.

The new season sees Cassie living a sober life in Los Angeles before an overseas assignment leads her to inadvertently witness a murder, meaning she becomes involved in another international intrigue.

'The Flight Attendant' has proved to be a hit with audiences as season one was nominated for nine Emmy awards but Kaley was worried that her fans would "hate" the show.

The 36-year-old star said: "All that went through my mind for the past three-and-a-half years since I optioned this book is, 'Oh my God, am I making a mistake?'

"'Are people going to hate this? Are they going to love it? Oh God, this is so bad, what am I doing? Why am I doing this?'"

The 'Big Bang Theory' actress also revealed how she witnessed how the programme was put together as an ex ecutive producer and says it makes the end result "even sweeter".

Kaley said: "Being an ex ecutive producer now, you just know way too much, you see all the struggle. As an actor, I get to wake up and walk in, you do your job and then you leave, and you see the end project.

"But learning the road to the end project, it actually makes this even sweeter, because you know how hard to work is, and how much of a huge team effort it takes."
