Our newsroom understands human remains found in suitcases in south Auckland last Thursday, were two young children

The suitcases were brought to a Manurewa property whose occupants apparently won an abandoned storage unit's contents in an online auction.

A neighbour on the scene at the time of the discovery saw 'kids' stuff in the back of the trailer' which transported the suitcases.

Police say the Moncrieff Avenue home's occupants aren't involved.

A homicide investigation is now underway.

Police are set to provide an update at 4.30 this afternoon.
