A truck carrying seven horses has rolled over on State Highway 1 north of Dunedin

Emergency services were called to the horse truck crash on Waikouaiti-Waitati Road shortly after 6 this evening.

Two people have been taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

A vet has been called out to assist with the horses recovery.

The road is closed because the incident has blocked both lanes.

Traffic is being diverted via Coast Road through Seacliff, but this road isn't suitable for heavy vehicles, which should delay their travel.
