The sinkhole on a key Auckland road may get worse before it gets better

A more than 100-year-old faulty stormwater pipe caused the hole to open up on College Hill Road earlier this week, disrupting traffic between Ponsonby and the CBD.

Head of Healthy Waters, Andrew Chin, says poor weather will likely make it worse.

He says rainfall will push more dirt down through the pipe, ultimately making the hole larger.

It's expected to take about four months to fix.
