Otago Regional Council have released seeker wallabies into the wild in a hope to control the pests

Otago Regional Council have released seeker wallabies into the wild in a hope to control the pests

Over the next year, 10 spy wallabies will be monitored by a hunting team to see if they lead the hunters to other wallabies in South Canterbury.

They are fitted with satellite GPS collars which constantly collects location data.

Project manager Brent Barrett says data from the collars is received by a satellite at 4am each day.

He says they can send instructions to the collars through the satellite to ensure the battery lasts the whole year.
